EAF Graphite Electrode

The graphite electrodes provided by AGRM are produced using advanced technology and strictly adhere to uniform quality standards. If you’re interested, please feel free to contact us at any time!

Graphite electrode refers to the high-temperature resistant graphite conductive material used in electric arc furnaces and other industrial electric furnaces, usually in cylindrical shape. The graphite electrodes produced by AGRM range in diameter from 75 mm to 800 mm and in length from 1000 mm to 2700 mm. According to different application requirements, our graphite electrodes are divided into RP(regular power), HP(high power), SHP(semi-ultra high power), and UHP(ultra-high power) four types. The steel industry is the main consumer of graphite electrodes, and graphite electrodes are also used in melting furnaces in the non-ferrous metals, ceramic products, and waste recycling industries.

Graphite Electrode Uses

Graphite electrodes used in electric arc furnaces

Used in Electric Arc Steel Melting Furnaces

Approximately 70-80% of the total consumption of graphite electrodes in China is used for steel-making in electric arc furnaces. In an electric arc furnace, a strong electric current can generate arc discharge in the gas environment at the lower end of the electrode, utilizing the heat produced by the arc for smelting.

Used In Ladle Refining Furnace

Graphite electrodes are used in ladle furnaces to refine molten steel. The ladle furnace primarily operates on the principle of electric arc heating; it receives molten steel from the primary furnace and refines it within a dedicated ladle.

Used in Submerged Arc Furnaces

Graphite electrodes are also used in the production of ferroalloys, pure silicon, yellow phosphorus, and more. In submerged arc furnaces, the lower part of the electrode is buried within the charge. Besides the heat generated by the arc between the electrode and the charge, the resistance of the charge itself also produces heat when the current passes through it.

Graphite Electrode Manufacturing Process

The manufacturing process of graphite electrodes primarily includes steps such as raw material calcination, crushing and screening, batching, mixing and kneading, molding, baking, impregnation, (secondary baking), graphitization, machining, and final product inspection. AGRM employs an automated control system to optimize the fine management of raw material ratios, innovation in molding technology, and temperature control during the baking and graphitization stages, thereby yielding higher-quality products.

Graphite Electrode Production Cycle and Stock Availability

The production cycle ranges from 3 to 6 months. The time for each stage is as follows:

Calcined coke production takes about 40 hours

Molding takes approximately one week

Primary baking takes about 25 days

Impregnation lasts 24 hours

Secondary baking in the tunnel kiln takes 10 days

Graphitization takes 10 days

Machining takes 5 days

After the finished products pass the quality inspection, they accordance with the customer they are then packaged according to the customer’s requirements before being finally transported to the customer’s location. There is inventory turnover at each stage, with a long-term stock of 10,000 tons and an annual production capacity of 40,000 tons!

AGRM Industrial Use Electrodes for Sale

Molybdenum is a metal with a relatively low electronegativity, offering good electrical conductivity. Due to molybdenum’s loosely arranged electron cloud, there is less resistance to the flow of electrons, resulting in lower electrical resistance. Molybdenum electrodes possess high strength at elevated temperatures, excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance, and a long service life. They are widely used in the glass industry as electrothermal devices in fiberglass furnaces, as well as electrodes in melting furnaces and electric-assist glass melting furnaces.

Copper is a metallic material with very high electrical conductivity, second only to silver among all metals, ranking second, which makes it highly efficient in transmitting electricity. Copper also has excellent thermal conductivity, which helps to dissipate heat during electrode operation quickly. Copper electrodes are ductile, dense in texture, stable in processing, and exhibit relatively low electrode wear. They are one of the commonly used electrode materials in electric discharge machining (EDM).
