Graphite blocks for casting are solid block-shaped graphite products made from high-purity graphite materials. They are mainly used in various metal casting processes, serving as molds, linings, or functional structural components. They are widely applied in precision casting and continuous casting of non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, copper, brass, gold, silver, and their alloys.
During the casting process, graphite blocks are typically machined into molds or dies, into which molten metal is poured directly. This allows the metal to cool and solidify in a stable and controllible environment, resulting in castings with precise dimensions and excellent surface quality. In addition, graphite blocks can also be used as mold linings, runners, distribution systems, crucible components, and core support structures, guiding metal flow, withstanding thermal shock, and ensuring casting stability.
Advantages over traditional materials (ceramic / metal molds):

- Excellent high-temperature resistance: Suitable for long-term use in high-temperature casting environments without deformation or cracking
- Low coefficient of thermal expansion: High dimensional stability, ideal for high-precision casting
- Non-wetting to molten metal: Molten metal does not easily adhere, enabling smooth demolding and reducing surface defects
- Good thermal and electrical conductivity: Promotes rapid and uniform solidification of metals, especially suitable for continuous casting
- Strong chemical stability: Corrosion-resistant and oxidation-resistant, performing exceptionally well in non-ferrous metal casting
- Excellent machinability: Easy to machine and capable of being quickly fabricated into complex geometries
The graphite blocks for casting produced by AGRM are manufactured using multiple forming processes such as extrusion, vibration molding, compression molding, and isostatic pressing. They feature a uniform crystal structure, high mechanical strength, and good impact resistance, and can be machined into various regular or complex geometric shapes according to application requirements. These graphite blocks offer excellent machinability, smooth surfaces, and high machining accuracy, allowing them to be used directly in subsequent processes. This effectively improves yield rates, reduces scrap losses, and overall enhances the quality and stability of casting products.
Highlights of AGRM Graphite Blocks for Casting

1. High Precision and Dimensional Stability
Our graphite blocks feature a high-density, low-porosity structure. Even under high-temperature casting conditions, thermal expansion and contraction are minimal, ensuring dimensional accuracy of complex parts within ±0.005 inches. This significantly reduces the need for secondary machining.

2. Excellent Surface Finish
The casting graphite blocks have a smooth and uniform surface, allowing castings to achieve a surface finish of 125 RMS or better. The self-lubricating surface reduces metal adhesion, minimizes burrs and sand inclusions, improves the appearance of finished products, and lowers subsequent machining costs.

3. Outstanding High-Temperature Performance
AGRM graphite blocks maintain structural stability at temperatures up to 1800 °C. They resist deformation or cracking caused by molten metal impact or high heat. With excellent thermal shock resistance, they can withstand rapid temperature changes and extreme casting conditions, ensuring mold integrity.

4. High Mechanical Strength and Wear Resistance
With a dense structure and strong mechanical properties, our graphite blocks withstand the impact and wear of repeated casting processes. The long mold service life allows multiple reuses, reducing production costs and improving manufacturing efficiency.

5. Flexible Machining
Our graphite blocks can be machined into complex geometries and fine structures according to customer requirements, suitable for casting, injection molding, and hot pressing processes. Their high customization capability meets diverse material and application needs.

6. Cost-Effectiveness
Compared with traditional molds, AGRM graphite blocks can save 50–75% in costs. Additionally, mold delivery is quick, typically 3–6 weeks, minimizing secondary machining steps and enabling customers to complete production tasks efficiently.

FAQs
1. What is the difference between graphite blocks and graphite molds?
Graphite blocks are raw or semi-finished materials that can be machined into various components, such as molds or liners. Graphite molds are finished products precisely shaped for specific casting applications. In short, blocks offer flexibility for customization, while molds are ready-to-use tools.
2. Can graphite blocks be used for steel casting?
Yes. AGRM graphite blocks are ideal for steel casting due to excellent heat resistance, low wettability with molten steel, and strong thermal shock resistance. We recommend high-density, high-purity grades to ensure stable performance and long service life under high temperatures.
3. How long is the service life of graphite blocks for casting?
Service life depends on graphite grade, casting temperature, metal type, and operating conditions. With proper use, AGRM blocks and molds can withstand multiple casting cycles, be re-machined to restore smooth surfaces, and stored for years without deformation or oxidation. Continuous mold use can exceed 100 hours.
4. How are graphite blocks produced?
AGRM produces graphite blocks using extrusion, molding, or isostatic pressing. The general process is: coke → crushing & grinding → mixing → pressing → baking & impregnation → graphitization → machining → inspection → finished product. Specific methods are selected according to production requirements.
